Mekong Delta Private Tour
We booked with Roadstour following reading others recommendations. We booked the Mekong Delta Markets private day tour. We received a call from the owner to pre warn us that the river markets were not what they used to be as developments have seen most of this historic market place move to the land. We appreciated his call and the option to amend our tour, we chose to continue with the tour just to see what was left and understand how this was done. Our Tour Guide was Ashley Truong, she was fantastic and suited our family who enjoy having fun, joking, and taking part in everything.
This tour takes a couple of hours to get to the river, and along the way we were able to stop and catch an early street breakfast, a benefit of having a private tour to make those little stops. Along the way we got to see some local operators with caged chicken snake & rat meals in a local road side family business, boarded the river boat on the Mekong, and viewed what was left of the markets (which was as advised to us very small), we then made our way along the river taking in all the lifestyle of those on the river, and took a small canal boat for about 1.5km likened to a backroad where their plantations and not a lot else, we then transferred back to the main boat and had a short stop to have a drink and view some traditional singing, then on again to see the traditional rice paper making, coconut sweets, rice popcorn, snake wine, honey, and other local products being made, before our final journey to a lunch just off the river, and a really nice lunch it was too.
So after a full stomach, we ended our tour with the long drive back to town. We are a family with children over 18 and we all had a great time. on the way back we had a call from the owner to check our experience with Roadstour, and were happy to advise him everything was great.
We are happy to recommend this tour company, the Mekong Market is not what it used to be so be prepared for that (and we were pre warned by the company and Ashley), the rest of the tour and especially our Tour Guide Ashley were great, she has really good English, good sense of humour, and made the tour great for us.
