Excellent Way To See Both The Cu Chi Tunnels and the Mekong Delta In The Same Day

We were in Vietnam at the end of November and had only one day available on our itinerary to see the Cu Chi Tunnels and the Mekong Delta. Most tour companies offer the opportunity see one or the other for a day trip, but Cap Van Phung's Roadstour Company made it possible for us to visit both. 

Phung, an excellent guide, and a driver picked us up first thing in the morning from our hotel, and we got to the Cu Chi Tunnels before they were too crowded. He led us around the tunnels, and we had more than enough time to see the highlights of this historic site. 

Then we drove the couple-hour trip to the Mekong Delta, stopping along the way for an excellent multi-course lunch at a restaurant for tourists visiting Mekong. 

Our afternoon visit to Mekong included rides in a motorboat, land gravel by horse and buggy and a trip down a tributary of Mekong in a canoe. A highlight of the visit was stopping by the home of an elderly couple. 

The husband was a Viet Cong supporter during the War, based in Mekong, and he warmly received us and climbed up his coconut tree to pick us coconuts to drink. 

All in all Phung and his driver provided us with an excellent day trip from Ho Chi Minh City.
